Ours is a small hobby kennel and we now only breed a litter occasionally, usually when we want a puppy for ourselves. It is important to us that any puppies we breed are happy and healthy as well as good examples of the breed. It has always been our aim to breed dogs of sound temperament and type.
I have always owned and loved dogs and first showed a dog (a rough collie),over 50 years ago, before I was married. My husband David and I also showed and bred Dobermans for a number of years before fulfilling a long held ambition and getting our first Great Dane around 40 years ago. From then on we could not imagine our lives without Danes in them. Although eventually as we have got older, we had to downsize into something smaller.
We were granted the kennel name "Sarshan" in the early 1980s and began breeding our own lines.
It was about this time that we joined our local dog club and in due course became committee members. David became the secretary of The Wirral Kennel Association in 1986. Although we rarely show ourselves now we feel this kept our toes in the water. In 2015 we retired from the committee but remain life members.
In the 2000s we were persuaded by our son to branch out into another breed and so we began breeding Labradors. Although Danes will always be our first love we became besotted with Labradors as well!
In 2010 we made the hard decision to stop breeding Great Danes and put all our years of experience into our beautiful Labradors.
It was this same year we welcomed our first Cocker Spaniel, fulfilling another long held dream, as cockers are a breed we had admired for a long time.
We now just have a few Labrador oldies (all 3 are now 13) along with our beloved Cockers.
We have a wealth of experience but now only breed rarely, when we wish to add to our family.
